Sant Jordi ... a book or a rose?

Every year on 23rd April the city's streets and squares become more alive with the little book stalls with the last bestsellers scattered here and there. The flowershops sell roses of all types and colours; the streets get crowded with people browsing books or buying a rose. It's one of the most beautiful customs I know of. It is great to see people at the book stalls in Les Rambles (or any other part of the city) making up their minds about THE BOOK they are going to buy for the loved one. And the colourful bunch of roses ...
What do I like getting for Sant Jordi? Well, will you be surprised if I answer "Both"? I am what the English call "a bookworm" - I love reading - and I love roses, too!!
What about you? What feelings does Sant Jordi evoke for you? Are you a book-person, a rose-person or both?

  1. I agree with you, I love read books, when i was young in Sant Jordi I've recibed roses and books, and I was very happy. The last book I've read is Shadow Hunters and I really loved, now i'm reading some horror stories of H.P. Lovecraft, but roses are very beautiful and they transmit a lot of love. In Sant Jordi I've recibed 5 roses.
Definitely, you can choose, if you like more roses get roses, if you like more books get some books; if you like both, take both.

  2. I agree whit you, I love read books. My favourite books are Eragon and Dracula. Last year for Sant Jordi, my mum bought me the book of Crakovia, and I love it. I don't like flowers, so I don't like roses, I prefer books, in my opinion they are more interesting.

  3. I think books are better than roses, a rose is just a detail, a book it's much better than a rose, because a book never dies, you can read it everytime you want and the rose will die.

  4. I think that the books are better than rose, because it is funny and entertaining as it lasts a lifetime, and rose only lasts three or four days, but what a nice gift, is not the same as a book, which has many things, such as example, adventure, horror, love, science fiction ... I think that is very best gift for everyone.

  5. The feelings it evokes "sant jordi" for me are the types of tummy tickles you feel when they know that your loved one is going to give a rose but not as you would not know that place so that impatience to see it now, these are the days on which you want to see more ances. This is quite clear that I am over people-roses, but I have to admit that there are some books that fall in love just by looking at the title.

  6. I like roses, but it is true that the book is better present, but it is also more personal and it's posible that the present don't like you. I think that one roses make more illusion.

St. George (Sant Jordi) is the patron saint of Catalonia. It is a very important day for the Catalans, one of the most awesome days. All the people buy books, and roses and give to the loved. It's traditional in Catalonia. Now it is more important around the theme of indepedence. Usually it isa good day for all Catalans. I hate that people give me books I do not like to read. If I read I like a good book.

  8. I like both, I like to give away a rose, but also I like to give books, but that if you first ask me what kinds of books I like and then buy though I would read any book, and roses say that I like the color blue roses or non-normal.

  9. In my opinion both are good choices for gifts. It is true that the rose dies and you can not have for a long time and the book will last a lifetime but it's just a detail to tell someone you care. The intention is what counts.
